In the process of goal setting, the key to reaching your objectives is writing them down. It’s almost like seeing it, will help you achieve it. I’d like to apply the same philosophy to wedding vows.
It is important to take the time to reflect on the promises you will make to your partner to ensure a successfully long life together.
Your vows can play a large part of your special day. We are lucky to live in a modern time where on our wedding day, we can keep things traditional, sentimental, classic or unique. You can choose to read a prayer, poem or exert or even compose your own. The important thing is to have something to say.
I’d like to share my personal story on how I came up with my vows for our wedding day.
I chose to read the lyrics of the song “Gabriel” by Lamb. Growing up, I never had a boyfriend. Always crushing on guys who never liked me back. This melodrama is probably responsible for all the creativity that inspired my art and writing in high school. When I heard the lyrics to this song for the first time while studying, I finally imagined what it would feel like to find true love. My interpretation of the song was that you need to find someone that will complete you, will make you a better person, and will make you stronger, a real team. I found those qualities in my husband and realized this was the perfect way to deliver my promises to him. We have been married now for almost 4 and a half years with a 10 months old son. Raising a young family is not a walk in the park, but looking back on these vows, it reminds me of the strong foundation we have in our relationship.
No one said that attaining your goals will be easy. But if you come back to your vows once in a while, when the ground gets shaky, you are sure to bounce right back up. Marriage is a team effort and requires work. But doing this with your life partner makes the ride that much more rewarding.
“I can fly
But I want his wings
I can shine even in the darkness
But I crave the light that he brings
Revel in the songs that he sings
My angel gabriel
I can love
But I need his heart
I am strong even on my own
But from him I never want to part
He’s been there since the very start
My angel gabriel
Bless the day he came to be
Angel’s wings carried him to me
Heavenly … ”
