There are many factors you should consider when choosing the type of metal for your engagement or wedding ring.
Here are of the factors you should consider when choosing a metal for your ring.
Does she prefer yellow or white? For yellow, the only choice available is yellow gold. Depending the karat purity however, the shade of yellow can vary.
If she prefers a white look, there a few different options available: White Gold, Palladium or Platinum.
Take a look at the jewellery she wears. What colour is it? The vast majority of the rings we do are in either White Gold or Platinum but in the end, it’s her preference that matters. Take notice.
If she's very active and rough with her possessions, you may want to lean towards a more scratch-resistant metal like white gold. Platinum is more durable however it does not hold a polish as well and is more likely to scratch.
Platinum is the most expensive option. On average, you can expect to pay 2 to 2.5 times more for platinum that for the cost of 18k White Gold. Palladium will be similiar in price to that for white gold.
If she does, you'll have to go with platinum or palladium as they are hypoallergenic. If you're not sure you can always ask her. If she already wears white gold jewellery such as earrings, she likely will have no allergy issues. Speak to one of our consultants if this is of any concern to you.
