Diamonds are the most popular stone of choice when it comes to engagement rings but plenty of other options are available. That said, coloured stones are also great options to use as sidestones as well as for a center stone. Intimate knowledge of coloured stones is not necessary for you to incorporate colour into your piece. Coloured Diamonds

Diamonds naturally occur in almost every colour of the rainbow and generally are more rare than white diamonds. Red, pink and blue diamonds are amongst the most rare in colour. Coloured diamonds vary in the intensity and saturation of their colour with many cross-colours occurring as well such as a Purplish-Pink or Greenish-Yellow.





Sapphires

Sapphires are the next hardest gemstone after diamonds. The most common colour people associate with sapphires is blue but they are available in just about every colour of the rainbow including yellow, pink and white. Sapphire is September’s birthstone.  Sapphires are commonly used in bridal jewellery as centre stones and accent stones.

Ruby

Often noted for its deep red flaring colour, rubies are a fantastic option to use both as a center stone or sidestone accent. The ruby is July’s birthstone.

Emerald

Prized for the deep green colour, the value of an emerald will be depend on the richness of its colour as well as its clarity. This gorgeous and rare precious gem also represents May’s birthstone.

Tanzanite

Tanzanite is a gorgeous gemstone that has a purplish/blue colour. It derives its name from the country of Tanzania where it was originally discovered. The colour of this gemstone will display differently under different lighting conditions and is a common stone option as both a center stone or side stone.

Amethyst

Pearls

The ideal pearl is perfectly round and smooth. Pearls naturally occur in many other shapes. A "natural pearl" or "wild pearl" is one that forms without any human intervention at all, in the wild, and is very rare.  Pearls can differ in colour from white, black to golden yellow depending on where they are from. Pearls are commonly associated with June’s birthstone.
