Antique or Vintage (includes Victorian and Edwardian era-inspired pieces)
Designs from this era inspire romance and feminine grace. These rings featured fine hand-engraved details as well as intricate metal-work that resembled fine lace. These features were often accentuated by incorporating open spaces to further create a feeling of delicate beauty.
French for ‘new art’, Art Nouveau rings often mimicked forms from nature such as water lilies, flower and dragonflies. Flowing lines were a common theme during this period.
Architectural and highly stylized, these rings were often symmetrical and featured geometric designs.
Split strands of metal allow for open spaces and accentuate the center stone in a unique fashion.
Bypass rings allow for interesting shapes and can create the illusion that the center stone is wrapped between two arms of metal.
Shoulders sloping up towards the center stone allows a more architectural look from the profile view and also allows for the stone to not seem like it’s set so high off the ring.
A common shape in Europe, flattening the bottom of the ring provides a different twist to the traditionally round band shape.
Incorporating a knife-edge to the ring adds contour and an extra flair to the traditional rounded band. The ‘sharpness’ of the knife-edge can be customized to your liking.
Taper or Reverse-Taper
By having the ring width thin out as it approaches the center stone, this style focuses the viewer’s sight toward the center stone. The same result can also be achieved by have the ring width get wider away from the center stone.
Trinity or 3-Stone rings
The 3 stones are symbolic of the Past, Present and Future. This style is popular for both engagement and anniversary rings. Various options are available from having all three stones being the same size, setting a larger center stone to using different shaped sidestones for further accent.
