The Most Important Factor
Cut is the most important factor because this will determine how much your diamond shines and sparkles. A diamond may have superb natural pedigree (ie. D in colour, VVS1 in clarity) but if it is cut poorly, it will not sparkle at all. What a waste!

Remember that carat is a measure of weight and NOT size.
To illustrate cut, think of 2 guys who both weigh 200lbs each.One guy might be tall and skinny while the other is short and wide.
In the same way, two diamonds can have the same carat weight but be proportioned differently. This is important because a diamond’s proportions will have a dramatic impact on how light shines and reflects in the diamond.
How to Evaluate a Diamond's Cut
At Engage, we’ll show you how well your stone is cut using an instrument called a Porportionscope. It will display a silhouette of your diamond’s outline against the outline of an ideal cut diamond so you can see how well cut your diamond is.
