How to Propose to a Man

Tradition stipulates that in order to get married a man has to propose to a woman. But traditions are meant to be broken, right? They are in this case. Today there are very few rules about who proposes to whom. Feel free to propose to your man if you know you are ready for marriage. Just do so wisely. Understand that men and women are different. What would make a great proposal for you will not necessarily be something that thrills him.

Think about What Makes Him Tick

What is it that makes your man tick? What are his passions, his goals, and the principles by which he lives? These are the kinds of things to think about when planning to proposal. For example, your guy might be into hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors. Taking him to a black tie restaurant where you hope to pop the question might not go so well. A better way to go is to tailor your proposal to the kinds of things that drive him.

Consider Keeping It Private

Women may find that getting down on one knee in a crowded public venue and presenting an engagement ring is one of the most romantic things a man could do. Again, men are different. Most men are not comfortable with excessive displays of public affection – whether single or attached. Proposing in public could be too embarrassing for your man to bear.

If there is any possibility that your man would be embarrassed, consider keeping your proposal private. There’s nothing wrong with that, by the way. A private proposal can be just as romantic and passionate. It is all in how you do it and how you present your proposal.

Buy Him a Gift

It is a good idea to buy your man a special gift to mark the occasion. If your man is okay with rings, it is absolutely acceptable in this day and age to purchase an engagement ring. In fact, lots of couples these days are getting rings for both him and her. An engagement ring for your man signifies your love for him and tells everyone else he is off the market.

If he is not much for rings, choose something else he might find special. This is another area in which knowing what makes him tick is important. The gift you choose should be one that speaks to who he is as a person. It should be a constant reminder that the two of you will be together forever.

Be as Creative as You Can

Lastly, the need to be creative applies just as much to women as it does to men. As long as you are going to go against tradition and propose to your man, you might as well make the event as memorable as you can. One of the first things that come to mind is to take advantage of the jumbotron at your man’s favourite sporting event. Of course, this is contingent on him actually being a sports fan.

You can also cook his favourite meal and put on a very intimate and private dining experience. If your man likes to cook, you could prepare the meal together before you pop the question. You might even hide the engagement ring or gift somewhere in the presentation so that he finds it.

Proposing to a man is not only possible but also culturally acceptable in this day and age. So go for it. If Engage Diamond Studio can help with a custom-designed engagement ring, we would be happy to be part of your special occasion.
